Private Car Insurance

Private car insurance can be complicated; have you tried to obtain a quotation on the internet and found it difficult or confusing? As brokers we complete this process for you and explain your cover clearly. For standard risks we survey the market using a large range of insurers and will offer you the most competitive quotation available to us for the level of cover that suits your needs. There are no hidden surprises.

When it comes to shopping around for car insurance, you may well believe that the lowest price is the best value, but we believe that this is not always the case. You need to check the level of cover that is included.  Some policies may have higher excesses or exclude some of the policy sections that you may have with your existing policy.  By purchasing the wrong type of insurance this could cost you more in the long run.

We only obtain private car insurance quotations through A rated insurance companies who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

As we have been dealing with most of these companies for many years we are aware of their service levels and we have very few complaints from our customers.  However, if you did have cause to complain, we would be able to help you through the process and hopefully resolve any situation as soon as possible.

At renewal, we will survey the market again and if we have a product that gives the same level of cover at a more competitive premium then we will let you know.  We will write to you, in good time, prior to the renewal date to advise you of the best offer we have.

There are ways that your insurance premium could be lowered, without compromising on cover, such as:

• Parking in a garage or driveway if possible. Most insurers will give a discount for this, where-as a car parked on a road will not, usually, obtain a discount.
• Choose a make and model from a low insurance group for a lower premium. Insurers prefer popular models which are not as expensive to repair as parts are more readily available.
• Be accurate about your mileage. The lower your annual mileage, the lower your premium. However, don’t underestimate your mileage as this could invalidate your private car insurance when making a claim.

• Some insurers give a discount for insured and spouse.  It may be worth looking at this even if they don’t use the vehicle much.
• Pay for the insurance annually rather than monthly.  You may be charged interest if you decide to spread the cost.
• Ensure that you have the correct information as to the number of years no claims discount you are entitled to.  The more years that you have the greater the discount.

Other Considerations

Protecting your no claims bonus

• Consider paying an extra premium to protect your no claims bonus.  This means that in the event of a fault claim your bonus is not reduced.  However, your premium may still increase slightly as you will be deemed as a worse risk if you have a fault claim.

Think about adding a voluntary excess to your private car insurance

• You may wish to add a voluntary excess to your compulsory excess to lower your premium.  Remember you’ll get less back if you make a claim (after both voluntary and compulsory excesses have been deducted) so you need to be able to afford it.
